His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco replied to a birthday message I sent him several weeks ago. The card is substantially similar, but not identical, to the response I received from his wife, Princess Charlene, just a couple of weeks ago on the occasion of her birthday.

I was immediately taken by the HSH’s royal cipher, which I know previously included the roman number “II” inside the double A. For reasons I can’t be sure of, that “II” is now gone. The card itself is on heavy card stock and includes a facsimile of the Prince’s signature.

I have received other replies to messages I have sent to this royal house, and traditionally the responses have been on very sharp stationery and sent by a secretary on behalf of the Prince or Princess. The last two responses have been unique in that they have been in the royals’ own voice and have contained a facsimile of their signatures – a nice addition to the collection.
